CNA / HOSPICE AIDE - PRN

The CNA / Hospice Aide is a paraprofessional trained to provide personal care and other unskilled services. The CNA / Hospice Aide functions under the direction, instruction and supervision of a Registered Nurse.
Responsibilities
- Assists/provides the patient with Activities of Daily Living (ADL) including personal care, exercise, ambulation, changing and making the patient’s bed as directed by the RN.
- Assists patients in and out of bed, including the use of mechanical lifting equipment, when applicable.
- Encourages the patient’s family to participate in patient’s care and assists in the maintenance of a safe environment.
- Assists the patient and/or family with the administration of oral medications ordinarily self-administered that have been ordered by the physician, if allowable under state specific regulations.
- Assists with non-skilled treatments as ordered by the physician and approved and supervised by the Registered Nurse.
- Gives emotional support to the patient and encourages independence in the patient as allowed in Patient Care Plan.
- Maintains twelve (12) hour educational requirements.
- Prepares light meals, launders and performs other household services as essential to the patient’s health care and necessary to maintain health.
- Measures and records fluid intake and output as directed. Takes and records blood pressure, pulse and respirations.
- Reports/records changes in the patient’s mental status, physical status, or appearance to the Registered Nurse immediately.
- Participates in weekend rotation for scheduled visits.
- Willing and able to accurately utilize any automated device required to document in the electronic medical record.
Qualifications
- Must demonstrate maturity necessary for establishing and maintaining a good working relationship with the patient, family and personnel.
- Must demonstrate a sympathetic and compassionate attitude and be able to function with minimal supervision.

Required Registration/Certification:
Successful completion of a Certified Nurse Aide program and Current Certification. Certification must be current and the CNA must be in good standing with state regulations.
